Sandra's Story
A calling at age 12. Thirty years in China. A new chapter in Uganda. One story of faith, spanning two continents.
Sandra King
Founder & Director, Sandra King Ministry. For 30+ years, Sandra has answered a calling that began as a 12-year-old in Nelson, New Zealand — first through more than three decades of orphan care in China, and today through her present-day ministry serving vulnerable children in Uganda.
She is the author of the Complete China Trilogy, a three-book account of her life's work, and continues to lead Sandra King Ministry's work supporting children and communities today.
A Calling in New Zealand
Sandra grew up and went to school in Nelson, New Zealand. At the age of 12, she watched a film that would shape the rest of her life: The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, the story of missionary Gladys Aylward.
Something in that story took hold of her. Years would pass before she understood exactly why, but the sense that she was being called to something greater never left her.
Answering God's Call to China
Answering that long-held call, Sandra travelled to China, adapting to a new culture and a new life within a communist regime. It was the beginning of a journey that would span three decades.
Over more than 30 years, she personally founded three orphanages and three half-way homes, rescuing children — many with special needs — who had nowhere else to go. Through her care, hundreds of children found safety, healing, and in many cases, new families.
A New Chapter in Uganda
Sandra's calling didn't end in China. Today, her ministry continues in Uganda, supporting orphaned and vulnerable children through housing, education, healthcare, and spiritual care.
What began as a 12-year-old's response to a film has become a lifetime of service spanning two continents — two different chapters of the same calling.
